Connect4Literacy.org

Connect4Literacy.org was launched in 2013 to provide a one-stop, go-to website where members of the Houston community can search and sign up for literacy-related volunteer opportunities. More than 100 literacy organizations—public libraries, schools and nonprofits—across Houston have leveraged the web-based platform to post and manage volunteer engagement opprtunities. The Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation is pleased to partner with Points of Light, the world's largest volunteer mobilization organization, to host and manage Connect4Literacy.org through Hands On Connect. The Foundation is proud to serve as the first-ever organization to utilize the platform to mobilize volunteers across a network of organizations with a singular cause.

What people are saying…

“Schools across HISD have been using Connect4Literacy.org to recruit and manage literacy volunteers since 2014. The Foundation customized the platform to enable it to seamlessly connect with the district’s Volunteers in Public Schools system, which has enabled us to screen and approve volunteers more efficiently.”

— HISD Najah Callander, Family and Community Engagement Executive Director

“Connect4Literacy.org has made it easy for me to find volunteer opportunities and keep track of my service hours, as well as connect with other organizations that need volunteer assistance.”

— Barbara Dorr, Volunteer

“Over the years, the Friends of the Houston Public Library has not only been able to manage volunteer engagement more efficiently and effectively, but also increase the number of volunteers engaged in our organization, thanks to the technology, support, and visibility the Foundation has provided with Connect4Literacy.org.”

— Licia Green Ellis, Houston Public Library Foundation Chair
