Engaging Volunteers

Members of our Ladies for Literacy Guild and Young Professionals Group, along with volunteers from corporations and community organizations, serve as catalysts for advancing our mission and expanding our reach across the city.

Young Professionals Group

Our Young Professionals Group (YPG) is a member-based organization comprised of more than 125 community-minded individuals who are committed to Read. Lead. Serve. the next generation. Through service and social events and signature literacy initiatives, such as Barbara’s Book Boxes, they are building a cross-sector volunteer network to bridge the gap in access to resources in high-need schools and neighborhoods.

Ladies for Literacy Guild

The Ladies for Literacy Guild is a dynamic group of more than 350 women who care deeply about our city. Since its formation in 2015, the Guild has been a force for good by creating children's libraries in community centers, championing the Curiosity Cruiser mobile library initiative, boosting capacity and access to literacy programs for children and families, serving as reading role models in elementary schools, and more.

Connect4Literacy.org

Connect4Literacy.org is a special website we host in partnership with Points of Light that enables dozens of schools, nonprofit organizations, and libraries to post volunteer opportunities and for members of the Houston community to search and sign up for them.

Read Across the Globe

On October 19, 2015, the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation teamed up with Points of Light, Volunteer Houston, Deloitte, Dollar General Literacy Foundation, and Jumpstart's Read for the Record to host Read Across the Globe. The aim of the event was to raise awareness of the importance of literacy and attempt to break a Guinness World Record.
